Maintenance Technician- 3rd Shift

Lincolnshire, IL - Full Time

Flexan is a global strategic contract manufacturer of custom high-quality silicone and thermoplastic components, sub-assemblies and devices designed to meet the critical requirements of Class I, Class II and Class III medical devices, as well as custom compounding and molding for precision parts.

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for mold/extrusion changes, set-up & process troubleshooting on molding machines, extruders, auxiliary, and processing equipment. Provides hands-on technical ability.  Strong trouble shooting skills required. Minimize equipment downtime. Identify defects and make adjustments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sets up, mold/extrusion changes and processing. Assists in start-up of jobs to meet the daily schedule.  Controls operations on injection molding machines, extruders, assemblies, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Material handling and quality checks.
  • Maintain the highest level of workmanship standards and product quality. Provides recommendations to improve quality and performance of production machines.
  • Use strong problem-solving skills to trouble shoot machines and auxiliary equipment. Determines the root cause of machine alarms. Makes all necessary adjustments and tool or machine repair recommendations.
  • Evaluates materials and processes including standard work to actual to molding performance.
  • Ensures production times are met.
  • Check and complete all paperwork associated with the setup and adjustments of tooling, machines and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all associated procedures applicable to the manufacturing process.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters and oscilloscopes to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.
  • Maintain a safe working environment. 
  • Communicate best practice to other team members and shifts.
  • Trains personnel on procedures for IQMS (ERP) for production reporting, review, and posting.
  • Cooperation and professional conduct with coworkers, staff, and managers.   
  • Meet Flexan standards for quality and productivity.
  • Follow all procedures for cleanroom operation, cleanroom attire, and contamination control. 
  • Initiates a root cause investigation to address any major maintenance related equipment failures and report findings to maintenance Manager and or Lead.
  • Suggests and implements any maintenance equipment related improvements to increase productivity and reduce overall cost and equipment failure.
  • Promotes teamwork and ensure that all maintenance work orders generated are opened and closed in a timely manner.
  • Follow all Flexan procedures for traceability, line clearance, process control, safety, and housekeeping.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Technical degree is preferred. Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree for a candidate who can demonstrate the combination of experience, training and education to be capable of successfully fulfilling all duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Must have advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Prior experience with Allen Bradley Control Logix Processors and RS Logix 5000.Understanding of control system design and network communication interfaces.
  • Ability to read use and interpret measuring devices, gauges and inspection tools.
  • In depth knowledge of compressors, chillers, and water softener systems.
  • Ability to read and understand prints and electrical schematics.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate needs and demands in an effective manner.
  • Must be detail oriented, focused and able to produce accurate and professional documents.
